We are very excited to be working alongside two partners in an initiative at the very core of our mission: enhancing and adding value to South Africa’s Health Tech ecosystem. The UK-South Africa Tech Hub is part of the International Tech Hub network delivered by the UK government’s DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport), designed to promote digital inclusion and inclusive growth of the digital ecosystems in partner countries. Launched in February 2019, the SA arm of the network has launched initiatives with the key aim of building digital skills and creating sustainable partnerships between local tech players and international businesses to stimulate digital economies and capacitate South Africa’s tech ecosystem.
Endeavor South Africa, as part of Endeavor Global, is a catalyst and accelerator for high-impact entrepreneurs – selecting, mentoring and elevating businesses on a path to scale, sustainable economic growth and job creation. This is through providing and fostering financial, human, social, intellectual and culture capital. The start-ups they work with span across many industries including fintech, food & beverage, enterprise software & services, healthcare, agriculture, retail and consumer tech.
The Ecosystem Building Programme will enable tech entrepreneurs with solutions in the healthcare sector, to gain access to thought leaders, decision makers and influencers in the healthtech space. This will be an opportunity for the selected entrepreneurs to interact directly with subject matter experts from government, healthcare corporates, start-ups and academics – potentially expanding their network and exposing them to commercial opportunities. This interaction will be through a series of masterclasses, panel discussions and working groups, running over a period of 6 months to early 2021.
A well-supported South African healthtech ecosystem is key to the development and proliferation of solutions to the unique healthcare challenges within our borders and beyond. We at WHI are extremely excited to be involved in this initiative and look forward to contributing to it.
